I brought home my newest steed yesterday afternoon.
She is a semi-custom bike built by Andy Gilmour in Tucson. We will eventually work on a fully custom frame, but for the time being this is my race horse. The bike has Campagnolo Record components and weighs in at 17.15 pounds. It may drop under 17 pounds when we cut the steer tube. Here are a few more images of the bike:
I took the bike out on a ride this morning with my friend Rob. We didn't go too far, but we did a fair amount of climbing. The bike handled great and seemed quick. I am trying to get used to the more stretched out position of this bike. My other bike was smaller and as Andy said, "I sit up like a sail." For the most part our ride was fairly leisurely, but there was a point where three riders flew by me on a down hill segment. I decided to pick up the pace a little and tucked in about 5 bike lengths behind them. When we got to a fairly steep hill, I got out of the saddle and hammered up the hill. I ended up beating them by about 3 bike lengths. I hope, crushed their spirits. I felt really good climbing and will be interested to how the bike handles on Thursday's more competitive ride. In addition to having a sweet new race bike, it allows me to convert my old Jamis into a nice commuter bike. I ran a few errands on it today and it was really nice to have gears as opposed to riding my single speed bike. Lastly, here is a shot of the bike wall in our garage:
Is it just me or does it look like there should be one more on that wall? N+1 anyone?
